Legendary singer and former Police front man Sting is rumored to be trying his hand at a different type of show...Broadway. According to a Michael Riedel's "Broadway Matinee" New York Post column, the singer and his wife Trudie Styler are looking for investors for a new show. Their new musical, "The Last Ship," would reportedly cost $15 million to bring the show to Broadway next spring and they are looking for investors.

Sting's own musical "The Last Ship" would be based after his 1991 album The Soul Cages. Sting and his co-producer Jeffrey Seller, already presented the staged reading on Friday according to Riedel. Sting has written the music and lyrics, but would not appear in the play itself.

The play is directed by Joe Mantello and stars Louise Pitre, Fred Applegate, Aaron Lazar, Jill Paice and Matthew Stocke. According to Riedel's sources, the play received mixed reviews from those in attendance. One person told Riedel that the songs do "start to sound alike after awhile." However, the women in attendance were said to be moved by the play as they were wiping away tears by the final scene. Some feared; however, that the play wouldn't be a commercial success.

Sting was actually on Broadway before when he starred in the 1989 revival of "The Threepenny Opera." As Riedel reports, Sting and his wife are often seen going to Broadway shows and have become fixtures on Broadway red carpets.

According to Riedel, Sting has been suffering writer's block for the last few years. This play could prove to be the breakthrough Sting is looking for. Sting has gone nearly ten years since releasing new material, as the former Police front man has been out of the public eye for some time now.

The 2013 Broadway scene features a number of big name stars like Alec Baldwin and Tom Hanks. Do you think Sting would be able to become a success on Broadway?
