There have been plenty of video game adaptations that turned out to be flops at the movie theaters. However, "Assassin's Creed" has the potential to be a blockbuster. The highly popular video game franchise following the highly skilled killer Altair in the Medieval Middle East now has a release date. According to Coming Soon, the movie will be released in theaters Memorial Day weekend...of 2015. The movie is reportedly set to open May 22, 2015.

Up until now, there has been very little known about the movie, other than the casting of Michael Fassbender in the film. As of right now there still is no director or cast (outside of Fassbender). The IMDB storyline reads: "A bartender is captured by a secret corporation and is forced into a machine allowing him to relive the memories of his ancestors -- all of them assassins -- and retrieve ancient artifacts." Outside of the video game storyline and Fassbender being cast, fans have been left in the dark. The news of a set release date though, should be a sign that the movie is ready to get going.

The Hollywood Reporter came out with the news months ago that New Regency and Ubisoft brought on British writer Michael Lesslie to write the film's script. Lesslie is an acclaimed British playwright, whose play "Prince of Denmark" was performed in England's National Theater. Meanwhile, Fassbender and Conor McCaughan are producers on the movie.

The "Assassin's Creed" storyline will not be an easy adaptation for Lesslie. The video game tells the tale of bartender Desmond Miles in a narrative through several time periods and various different characters.

Are you a fan of the video game "Assassin's Creed?" If so, do you think Ubisoft will be able to adapt the successful video game franchise to the big screen? Leave your comments below.
