NBA Car Crash: Mookie Blaylock in Critical Condition Following Accident in Georgia, Passenger in Other Car Dead

Former NBA All-Star Mookie Blaylock is in critical condition following a car accident in Georgia on Friday afternoon. According to The Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Daron Oshay Blaylock, who played most of his career with the Atlanta Hawks is one of two people in critical condition following a head on collision.

The 46-year-old former NBA player was said to be driving a Cadillac Escalade when, according to police, he drove over the median into oncoming traffic. Blaylock's car hit another car head on. As of right now, it's not known why Blaylock swerved over to oncoming traffic.

According to a USA Today story, Blaylock was taken off life-support after 8pm Friday evening and is in "guarded but critical condition." Sadly, WXIA in Atlanta is reporting that Monica Murphy died later Friday evening. The 43-year-old woman was the passenger in the van that was struck by Blaylock's Escalade. There is no word at this time as to the condition of the driver of the van. At the time of the accident, all three injured in the crash were taken to Atlanta Medical Center. Blaylock's car reportedly burst into flames on impact.

Blaylock played 13 seasons in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets, Hawks, and Golden State Warriors. Blaylock was drafted 12th overall in the 1989 NBA Draft by the Nets. The point guard was also named to the All-Star team in 1994 while making the All-Defensive team six times. According to WXIA, Blaylock has twin sons who are sophomores on the University of Kentucky football team.
