'Community' Season 5 News: Dan Harmon Returning, Creator & Show Runner Confirms on Twitter

Good news "Community" fans. Not only has the NBC show been renewed for fifth season, but creator and show runner Dan Harmon will also be returning to the popular, yet ratings challenged show. Although viewers don't see Harmon on screen, his absence was felt after being ousted last year. Harmon confirmed his return for season five on Twitter. The news reportedly has not been confirmed yet by Sony TV.

Harmon tweeted, "RT @dpeanutbutter: @danharmon GIVE US A STRAIGHT ANSWER! ~ Yes yes yes! I'm back I'm back I'm back. You can thank @joelmchale." It's interesting to see in Harmon's tweet his thank you to "Community" star Joel McHale. According to HitFix, the "Community" cast pushed for Harmon's return after dissatisfaction with show runners Moses Port and David Guarascio. Also returning for season 5 is writer Chris McKenna.

Despite rumors of a feud with Chevy Chase resulting in Harmon's ouster, HitFix made a point to deny those rumors. The website states:

"For the umpteenth time, one reason that was definitely not behind Harmon's departure: Chevy Chase. His continued presence had nothing to do with Harmon leaving, nor does his departure have anything to do with Harmon's return. They didn't get along, but that had nothing to do with either decision"

Chase is not returning for season five, which is probably best considering the rumored tension between Harmon and Chase. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season five of "Community" will likely happen mid-season, as the show was left off NBC's fall schedule. There still is no confirmed time for season five.
