Henry Cavill's 'Man of Steel' Workout Routine, Superman's Girlfriend is Former MMA Fighter Gina Carano

In case you haven't heard, there is a new Superman movie about to hit theaters June 14. "Man of Steel" will be featuring a new actor donning the blue and red tights. Henry Cavill, will be playing Clark Kent and his alter ego Kal-El aka Superman. Cavill may be best known for his work in the TV series "The Tudors," but after June 14, he may forever be known as Superman. If you have seen any of the video from "Man of Steel" you may have noticed Cavill is in great shape. So how did he get in such great shape? Well, Superman recently revealed his workout secrets.

I'm guessing any time one of these actors like Christian Bale with Batman or Hugh Jackman with Wolverine plays a superhero; they probably have to go through a rigorous workout to look like that superhero. If you've seen any of the pictures of Cavill with his shirt off in "Man of Steel," you can see the guy got ripped.

Cavill talked with ShortList.com about his workout routine and not wanting the movie to CGI his abs for him. "It was hell and wonderful at the same time," Cavill explained. "Mark Twight (Cavill's trainer) gave me a whole bunch of workouts to do by myself to get my fitness levels up, so that when I arrived in LA the really hard stuff would start. I did two months training on my own and four months training in LA with Mark, and that was excruciating - breaking boundaries I didn't know I could."

Cavill explained that he had to really train to prepare for the shirtless scenes, but was rewarded afterwards. "We had treats throughout filming, because to do 10 months without anything would be excruciating," Cavill tells ShortList.com. "The biggest treat was after a six-week phase when I was getting in shape for shirtless scenes. After that, Zack Snyder bought me an amazing apple pie and a tub of ice cream."

It looks like the workouts have paid off for Cavill, who is dating former mixed martial artist Gina Carano. She too has gotten into movies, recently starring in "Fast & Furious 6." Are you excited for "Man of Steel" to hit theaters June 14?
