Back in February, Melissa McCarthy had a hit new comedy out in theaters alongside Jason Bateman called "Identity Thief." The movie had done well at the box office during its opening weekend and McCarthy had a lot to be happy with. Unfortunately, she also had to deal with some mean spirited comments directed towards her from New York Observer film critic Rex Reed. The veteran movie critic ripped a part "Identity Thief" and made some comments many felt were personal attacks against McCarthy and her weight. McCarthy, known for her roles in "Bridesmaids" and "Mike and Molly" found herself the target of a harsh review. In Reed's review, he called McCarthy a "female hippo" and described her as "tractor-sized."

McCarthy chose not to respond to the Reed's comments even though he went on WOR 710 and defended what he said. Reed told WOR 710 host Mark Simone, "She is crying all the way to the bank!" He added, "Don't make me a villain."

Finally, McCarthy has responded to Reed's comments. Many are praising the actress for her classy response. The New York Times interviewed McCarthy recently, while promoting her new movie "The Heat" with Sandra Bullock, and she took the high road.

"I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate," McCarthy told the New York Times. "I just thought, that's someone who's in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs."

It looks like for now, this incident is behind everyone, although it will be interesting to see what Reed has to say in his review of McCarthy's latest movie "The Heat."
