Potawatomi Shooting: Bingo Casino in Milwaukee Location of Shots Fired, Boyfriend Allegedly Shot Girlfriend

A woman was shot late Saturday night (June 15) at the Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee according to various sources. WISN reports that the shooting occurred around 1:30am, technically Sunday morning, when a 27-year-old man shot his 23-year-old girlfriend in the leg. The woman was taken to the hospital and the injuries are reportedly not considered life threatening.

The casino released a statement saying, "We are thankful no one was hurt more seriously and that the situation was contained quickly." The boyfriend and girlfriend reportedly got into an argument, which led to the shooting. The Potawatomi Bingo Casino was shut down and evacuated to allow police to investigate the scene. The casino re-opened Sunday morning around 9am. Although the girlfriend was the only one shot, according to Today TMJ4, several other people were injured in the scramble following the shooting.

One witness to the scene told WISN, "I was upstairs at the bingo hall, and then when it was over they told everybody to exit because it was a shooting downstairs." The witnessed continued, "The security guards was there. They dropped like everybody else dropped. They wasn't too much protecting each other. They were trying but they were scared too. They fell to the floor. The whole casino fell to the floor basically."

WISN reports that the man accused of the shooting will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for possible charges. Although these were the first shots ever fired inside the casino, there were shots fired outside the casino back in 2011. During that incident no one was reported hurt.
