With technology rapidly evolving, social media and digital communications is home to some of the most technological breakthroughs to date. Jay-Z made digital history with the Samsung release of his Magna Carta Holy Grail, now MTV is preparing to carve its own nitch in digital history.

MTV is releasing the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Video of the Year nominees Wednesday at 8 am via MTV's Instagram and Vine accounts.

Each hour after the Video of the Year reveal, MTV will post additional Instagram and Vine videos highlighting the nominees in other categories, according to MTV News.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are historic all the way around. The 30^th annual awards show will be held August 25 at the Barclay's Center, making it first major annual awards show to take place in the borough.

In honor of the VMA's first time in Brooklyn, local artist KAWS redesigned the Moonman, creating a limited edition 2013 model.  "It's such a strong, iconic thing. Everyone sees the Moonman and knows right off the bat what it is," KAWS told MTV News.
