MTV VMA Nominees: Taylor Swift, Macklemore, 30 Seconds to Mars, More React on Twitter, Facebook to Moonmen Nominations, Mobilize Fan Votes [VIDEOS]

The nominees for the 2013 edition of the MTV VMAs have been announced today (July 17). In the award show's 30th year, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead the nominations with six each. Both are nominated for multiple videos.

The major difference between the 2013 VMAs and the show's original ceremony in 1983 is not the grandeur or difference in artists, but the way in which social media will play a role. After MTV announced the nominees early this morning, many of the musicians took to Twitter and Facebook not just to express their gratitude but to mobilize their fan bases to scoop up as many moonmen trophies as possible.

Not known for her great track record of keeping moonmen away from Kanye West, "22" singer Taylor Swift tweeted "Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time ;)" Swift is nominated for Best Female Video and the Video of the Year for "I Knew You Were Trouble."

Meanwhile, Macklemore -- who is nominated for Best Editing ("Can't Hold Us"), Best Direction ("Can't Hold Us"), Best Cinematography ("Can't Hold Us"), Best Video with a Social Message ("Same Love"), Best Hip-Hop Video ("Can't Hold Us") and Video of the Year ("Thrift Shop") -- tweeted his gratitude. "DAMN!!!! We got 6 MTV video music award nominations!?!?!?!!!!" he then thanked the channel itself. "@MTV Can't thank you guys enough. We're all tripping out!"

30 Seconds to Mars have already begun to mobilize their massive and dedicated Echelon fan base to help them win another VMA. Guitarist Tomo Milicevic posted a link for fans to sign up and vote on the VMA website. Meanwhile, their official Twitter simply thanked MTV. "BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! UP IN THE AIR has been nominated for THREE MTV AWARD NOMINATION! THREE!!! Wow! THX @MTV!!!"
