Nobody ever claimed that Kanye West has an ego problem. The Yeezus rapper unveiled his new music video for "Black Skinhead" at midnight today (July 22). However, the video is not to only reason West is making headlines today. West has claimed that the second verse for his Yeezus track "New Slaves" is the best of all time.

Taking to his Twitter on July 20, the rapper wrote: "I open the debate... The 2nd verse of New Slaves is the best rap verse of all time....meaning ... OF ALL TIME IN THE HISTORY OF RAP MUSIC, PERIOD." It's a bold statement from West, who is used to declaring things the best of all time (such as Beyoncé's "Single Ladies" video). So, does the "New Slaves" claim hold water?

The second verse of "New Slaves" is technically the entire portion of the song after the hook, a.k.a. the final three minutes of the track. The back portion of the song does feature some clever lines mixed with socio-political commentary. And though the lyrical portion goes from topic to topic, West flows well from line to line in regards to bringing up a new point.

Word play and lines like "They trying to lock n*ggas up, / They trying to make new slaves, / See that's that private-owned prison, / Get your piece today, / They probably all in the Hamptons bragging 'bout their maid, / F*ck you and your Hampton house, / I'll f*ck your Hampton spouse, / Came on her Hampton blouse, / And in her Hampton mouth," are interesting and show a fantastic sense of flow.

However, as brought up in Yeezus analysis, the second verse finds West going into familiar, misogynistic tropes. Additionally, the repetitiveness of the rhymes and some of the lines brings the verse down.

Great verse? Absolutely. Greatest verse of all time? Nah.

West's Twitter followers agreed that the song isn't particularly the best of all time. Check out what some of the people involved in the debate had to say about "New Slaves."
