It's not exactly like Robin Thicke needs to promote "Blurred Lines" anymore. The controversial genre-bending song has held the top spot in the country for eight weeks now, besting such hits as Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" and One Direction's "Best Song Ever." However, Thicke is not one to stop, apparently. Last night (July 31), the Canadian crooner performed his smash hit on NBC show "America's Got Talent."

Appearing without collaborators T.I or Pharrell, Thicke once again proved he has the chops live and in studio. Whispering the higher register portions and pounding out chorus and pre-chorus, Thicke even took over Pharrell's vocals.

The stage emulated Thicke's infamous music video, with "#THICKE" in illuminated red block letters and lyrics flashing behind him. Backup singers even replaced the topless models from the music video during a certain point in the performance.

Though he may not need to, promoting "Blurred Lines" and the album of the same name may be beneficial to Thicke, who is in the run for the No. 1 album in the country next week.

"Blurred Lines," which was released Tuesday (July 30), is projected to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week (Wednesday, Aug. 7). According to the music tracking website, "Blurred Lines" should sell around 135,000 copies.

The large number would be a second best for Thicke, whose 2008 album "Something Else" sold 137,000 copies in its first week.

Selena Gomez's solo debut "Stars Dance" took the No. 1 spot this week.
