According to TMZ, Amanda Bynes has had 30 days added to her current involuntary psychiatric hold. Previously, her parents were the ones who insisted on the evaluation, but now the doctors in charge of her have added the extension due to mounting problems with the actress. This means that Bynes will not be in court today for a scheduled hearing.
Here is an excerpt from TMZ's report that sums up the situation:
Sources tell us ... doctors at the psychiatric hospital where Amanda has been held for the last 2 weeks determined she was not well enough to leave the hospital to attend today's hearing -- where her parents are trying to win a temporary conservatorship.
We're told doctors went to a judge who traveled to the hospital to conduct an emergency hearing. The judge granted the doctors' request, and extended Amanda's psych hold for 30 days.
According to the law, doctors can only get such an order if the patient is "gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder."
Mstars recently reported on Amanda's initial involuntary psychiatric hold. Here is an excerpt:
Amanda Bynes' doctors confirmed to the judge that she is suffering for schizophrenia.
According to RadarOnline, sources admitted that the 27-year-old on involuntary psychiatric hold informed the judge of the actress' condition saying, "Amanda's doctors and a social worker told the judge that Amanda is being treated for schizophrenia," a source continued, "Although a formal diagnosis will be finalized in the next several days, it's almost certainly schizophrenia. Reports that said she was responding well to the psychiatric drugs that were being given to her are wrong. It can take months, or even years to get someone like Amanda to find the right drug combination and then get her therapeutic."
Fortunately for the "All About You" actress the source claims that she will be treated and her illness isn't life threatening, "The good news is that schizophrenia is treatable. It's a very serious diagnosis, but Amanda can live a long and healthy life, as long as she takes her prescribed medications. She can function in society and still work."
