The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are pulling out the big guns in regards to their performers. So far, Lady Gaga has been confirmed to play her new single "Applause," Kanye West will show fans his "Black Skinhead," Daft Punk are rumored to play the follow-up single to their summer hit "Get Lucky" and Miley Cyrus may just play "We Can't Stop." Now, Katy Perry has announced that she will perform her first "Prism" single "Roar" at the Aug. 25 award show ceremony.

This will be Perry's third time performing at the VMAs. According to MTV News, the "Firework" singer fist performed "I Kissed A Girl" at the 2008 ceremony and helped to cover Queen's "We Will Rock You" in '09.

"Roar," initially due out today (Aug. 12) was leaked over the weekend. Before the track was prematurely released, Perry had a series of video teasers that indicate the new "Prism" era.

Perry has grown since the 2010 release of "Teenage Dream." In the Ryan Seacrest interview that Perry announced her VMA performance during, she discussed how she has changed over the last three years and what exactly "Roar" means to her.

"With 'Roar,' this song is about speaking out for yourself. There was a time in my life that I just didn't kind of stand for anything, so I fell for everything, which is a lyric in the song. Sometimes you can feel burdened by people or a thing or a relationship, and it causes you to go inside yourself instead of saying, 'Hey, this isn't okay,'" she said.

The 2013 MTV VMAs will air on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. on MTV. It's the show's first turn at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
