One Direction is arguably the busiest musical act around these days. Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne are still in the middle of their "Take Me Home" world tour and they just premiered their new documentary concert film One Direction: This Is Us in the U.K. and New York City. But work is work and the boys are still writing and recording their newest album in between tour dates and appearances. But the writing process also involves the band's loved ones as well! According to Louis Tomlinson, his longtime girlfriend, model Eleanor Calder, helps approve new One Direction songs.

"I'm always showing Eleanor our new songs and I'm always proud of saying, 'We wrote this,'" Louis exclaimed.

It looks like Eleanor definitely has a good ear for music considering the boys just won the MTV Video Music Award for "Song of the Summer" with their hit "Best Song Ever." Check out One Direction holding up their moonman after accepting the award at the ceremony in Brooklyn over the weekend:

In this new interview with the Metro, the 1D boys revealed that their new album, due out around Christmas, showcases the group's willingness to progress in terms of what is expected of them.

"It is a bit risky. It's an implied risk," Tomlinson said. "We've thought about it."

Liam Payne added: "It is old-school, actually, and I like that. It's grungier. Not like Nirvana - more like a 1960s kind of sound."

"I think we've kind of taken away the glitter of our music," the recently engaged Zayn Malik said. "It's got that groovy kind of feel to it. And it's not as poppy."

"We're so involved. We've all done writing," Payne said. "It's our take on things and we're old enough to do what we want now."
