35-year-old Robert Hunter of Middlesbrough, England, was sentenced to 14 years in prison after he posed as pop sensation Justin Bieber online. Arrested back in 2011, Hunter tricked unsuspecting, young fans of the "Baby" singer to engage in sexual activity and make indecent photos over the Internet. Police discovered around 800 videos of both boys and girls at Hunter's home. Some of the victims were as young as 9 years old.

According to the prosecution, Hunter coerced these young victims into stripping on camera in exchange for "being their boyfriend." The prosecution also said that he would use the videos featuring one gender to lure more of the other (and vice versa) into making more and more videos.

If a victim tried to back out of the arrangement, Hunter threatened to post the indecent materials online. He followed through with this threat once by posting photos and personal information of one 12-year-old girl.  According to a report, this specific victim caused herself bodily harm in response to Hunter's attack.

Det Sargeant Paul Higgins, of Cleveland Police, said: "Robert Hunter was a calculating and malicious predator who set out to coerce and bully young girls into exposing themselves over the Internet."

"It represents callous, almost sadistic exploitation over a number of years preying on girls' naivety who were undermined by their own behaviour," Judge Peter Bowers said.  Bowers described Hunter's scheme as "one of the most serious cases of internet abuse that the courts have dealt with."

The judge hopes this case will stand as a warning "of what can be done via the Internet."
