Taylor Swift has been cast in an upcoming movie adaptation of beloved children's science-fiction book "The Giver." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "22" singer signed on for the film in a supporting role that has yet to be announced.

Swift joins a cast which features Meryl Streep, Katie Holmes, Jeff Bridges and Alexander Skarsgard.

Australian actor Brenton Thwaites will star in the movie.

According to THR, "The Giver" will begin filming early next month.

"The Giver" film is adapted from the Lois Lowry novel of the same now. Frequently read in middle schools, "The Giver" tells the story of Jonas, an 11-year-old living in a dystopian society where there is no color and life is tightly run with roles established at age 12.

Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory, where he learns about the more upsetting parts of his Community and about life "Elsewhere." He also learns how to use his senses and begins to see the world in color and in other new ways. After he learns more about how life could be, he begins to rebel against his society alongside his mentor.

"The Giver" isn't Swift's first foray into acting. In 2009, she co-starred in the romantic comedy "Valentine's Day." She's also made guest appearances on the TV shows "New Girl" and "CSI," according to iMDB.

The film adaptation of "The Giver" will be released on Aug. 15, 2014.
