Season 4 of AMC's hit zombie drama The Walking Dead premiered this week and it definitely was a crowd pleaser. One of the standout moments however came from the under-appreciated character of Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) reacting to the death of her boyfriend, Zach. Showrunner Scott Gimple spoke a bit about Beth in the after-show special, The Talking Dead, with host Chris Hardwick. He even compared Beth to pop star Taylor Swift! (SPOILERS to follow)

In the season 4 opener, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) tells Beth that her boyfriend had just died during a supply run, resulting in an unemotional response from the youngest Greene.

"I don't cry anymore, Daryl," she says. "I'm just glad I got to know him, you know."

During The Talking Dead, Hardwick brings this up to Gimple.

"Beth is tough," Gimple stated. "There was an episode we did in '18 Miles Out,' where she was sort of pondering suicide and being very flip about it."

Hardwick jumped in, saying: "I know, but in the last season she had sort of become like the Taylor Swift of the group and would sing campfire songs. And now you've totally just set up that there's something going on."

As if ready for this comment, the showrunner responded, "Or she's exactly like Taylor Swift."

He added: "Taylor Swift is tough."

It looks like Gimple is a Swift fan! Perhaps the singer will have some sort of guest appearance on the show down the line? Probably not, but it's fun to think about.

Gimple addressed some more Beth Greene concerns, specifically her questionable long embrace with Daryl.

"I will just say...and I'm not even entertaining that," he said. "But I'm saying that scene, and what she laid out in that scene, her emotional reaction to that, and Daryl's reaction to her reaction is one of those things that will play out throughout the season."

What do you think the future will hold for Beth Greene? Do you agree with the Swift comparison?
