Jamie Foxx & Oliver Stone, Martin Luther King Jr. Movie: New Biopic in the Works w/ 'Ray' Actor Starring in Lead Role of Civil Rights Legend

There are a number of Martin Luther King Jr. movies in the works, but director Oliver Stone has a lead in this movie race. The filmmaker is teaming with Warner Bros and Dreamworks to make this biopic and has Steven Spielberg producing. Stone even has the approval and blessing from King's family, so he has the rights to his life story. Now he even has a lead actor in mind: Jamie Foxx.

Stone's MLK Jr. biopic has basically just been a rumored project in the works for quite some time, but the filmmaker this week revealed to The Wall Street Journal that he is preceding with it.  

"We're looking for a way to relate to this extraordinary man," Stone said.

Before this confirmation, both Stone and Foxx had yet to receive offers for their work on this project as of last week. These early reports stated that meetings were taking place and that the two were eager to work on the project. It looks like they have moved past the negotiations stage and are ready to start pre-production soon.

The Hollywood Reporter describes Stone as "one of Hollywood's most polarizing figures, who loves stirring up the sand not just by being outspoken on issues, but also by tackling political or social material using a strong point of view."

His other biopics focused on the John F. Kennedy assassination (JFK), Richard Nixon (Nixon) and even George W. Bush (W.). These films focused on more controversial topics of the subjects, so it will be interesting to see how he portrays Martin Luther King Jr. with Foxx.
