Nelson Mandela's life was made for motion picture adaptations. The latest biopic comes from director Justin Chadwick, starring Idris Elba (The Office, Luther, Pacific Rim, Promethius) in the title role. Entitled Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, we can assume that this new look at the former South African President's life will be a visual story, with Elba possibly getting his first Academy Award nomination (or win!). Naomie Harris stars as Mandela's wife, Winnie, with Tony Kgoroge, Riaad Moosa, Zolani Mkiva and Jamie Bartlett also starring.

Here is the official synopsis for the upcoming biopic film:

MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM is based on South African President Nelson Mandela's autobiography of the same name, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country's once segregated society. Idris Elba (PROMETHEUS) stars as Nelson Mandela, Naomie Harris (SKYFALL) stars as Winnie Mandela, with Justin Chadwick (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) directing.

Another special treat from this trailer (besides the create film being advertised) is a special first listen to the first new U2 song in 3 years entitled "Ordinary Love." The band had a close relationship with Mandela through each party's charity work, so Bono and the band felt privileged to be asked to contribute to the soundtrack. The song was actually inspired by some early footage of the film!
