Justin Bieber has released the third song for his Music Mondays project, "Hold Tight." Like "Heartbreaker" and "All That Matters," "Hold Tight" technically was released on Sunday night, dropping in the 11 p.m. hour before Beliebers' heads hit their pillows.
"Hold Tight" follows in the vein of "Heartbreaker" and "All That Matters" not just in its slightly premature release but also in its musical aesthetics. Clocking in at slightly over five minutes, the track features a warbling Bieber singing over a simplified, heavy electronic drum beat. Small snares frame the heavier tones, creating something clunkier than the previous two Music Mondays while still maintaining an air of classic R&B.
As track three from Music Mondays, it seems that a pattern has been well established for this Bieber era. The other seven songs from Music Mondays -- the last of which will drop Dec. 9 -- are likely to follow suit.
Lyrically, Bieber continues to show his maturity in songwriting on "Hold Tight," as well as his broken heart. Like "Heartbreaker" and "All That Matters," this song once again emphasizes a "perfect" relationship gone awry, possibly echoing Bieber's break up with Stars Dance songstress Selena Gomez.
"This song is about the one you can't shake. I am a hopeless romantic so when I love someone, I never want to let them go. This song is about the rush you get when you have that feeling. No matter how hard you try, you can't let that person go. You just want to hold on as tight as you can. I tried to capture that with this one. And one more thing: it is never a bad thing to make a lady feel something inside she never felt before. Make her feel like a real lady. Hold tight girl. ;) -JB," Bieber wrote on his official website for the music journals component of Music Mondays.
