After months of rumors, viral marketing, and Twitter teases, the first trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past has been released and it is well worth the wait. Advertised as the "ultimate X-Men ensemble" to date, that is exactly what we get with this first extended look into Bryan Singer's movie that bridges his original X-Men films with his First Class prequel. Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, and Evan Peters star.

This first look shows fans the gravity of the current situation in the X-Men universe. Though we only briefly see Dinklage as Boliver Trask, we know that there is something forcing Magneto and Professor X together with Wolverine to travel into the past. As fans, we all know that Trask is trying to wipe out the mutants, but the trailer didn't need to be up front about that.

We immediately see familiar faces from the original and prequel films, with each character showing signs of despair. We are then introduced to some new characters as well as some harrowing scenes featuring a Magneto (Fassbender) on a "darker path."

The plot is outlined pretty quickly as Wolverine is instructed by Xavier (Stewart) to convince his younger self (McAvoy) to ensure a safe future for mutants. This is a story of survival. Mixed with scenes of screaming X-Men, Magneto apparently attacking Mystique (Lawrence) and the string arrangement, viewers can't help but be drawn into this film already.

There is little action but plenty of emotion in this two-minute, 18-second trailer.
