Yesterday (Nov. 12), Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover) made an appearance on late night talk show Arsenio to clear the air about his departure from Community, his personal Instagram posts and promote his upcoming sophomore album Because the Internet.

Dressed very casually in a white T-shirt, shorts and slippers, Gambino established he is a true renaissance man, and that's why he decided to leave Community in the show's fifth season. A mainstay as Troy Barnes since episode one, Gambino insisted that he didn't leave the show simply to rap, he just wanted to "do other stuff." As for all those Internet rumors? He quickly dismissed them; saying nobody wants to be just a rapper.

"That's the Internet. You can say anything on there. You can literally out anything about me and you will find proof, if you want," he said. "It wasn't rapping - I don't consider myself a rapper. I can rap, but I don't consider myself a rapper; I can do a bunch of stuff. A lot of people think I'm leaving just to be a rapper, but I think that's kind of dumb. Rappers don't want to be rappers... they're usually artists and want to do a bunch of stuff."

In addition to his departure from Community, Gambino also addressed his troubling Instagram posts from October, explaining his feelings weren't a "big deal."

"I'm insecure, I feel weird about a bunch of stuff. I'm awkward about stuff, but I just wish I didn't feel that way so much that it stopped me from doing what I really love doing," he explained. "Everybody's afraid. Everybody's so afraid now of offending or being misunderstood, that's gonna happen. So..."

More interestingly than the revelatory interview, Gambino also gave the live debut of his new Because the Internet track, "Shadows" alongside Thundercat. Beginning straight from Arsenio's couch, Gambino sang and rapped the funky, smooth PBR&B song with an emotional vigor.
