In case you happened to miss it, the 2013 version of the American Music Awards took place last night in Los Angeles. The star-filled night was full of powerhouse performances from some of the biggest names in music. There was Miley Cyrus with that crying cat in space thing, Katy Perry with a quasi-racist geisha performance of "Unconditionally" and Justin Timberlake's full band performance of "Drink You Away."

While all those songs were fine and good, there was one true standout from Sunday night (Nov. 25), and all it took was one girl, a sparkly red dress and a microphone. Yes, newcomer Ariana Grande stole the show at the AMAs with a simple yet powerful performance of her Yours Truly track "Tattooed Heart."

Grande took to the stage with four doo wop background singers who had their own little choreographed dance routine around their microphones but the true star of the night was the woman herself. Dressed in the sparkly red dress she walked the red carpet in, Grande belted out the short refrain from "The Way" to kick off her AMA performance.

Soon though, she blasted into "Tattooed Heart," a non-single from Yours Truly but the song that perhaps best demonstrates her strong singing talent. She easily soared into the high notes of the song while remaining demure and in control of the entire performance. Even though the performance was completely simple, the entire Nokia Theater was dominated by the tiny 20-year-old. It was a perfect way for Grande to introduce herself to the entire American audience, who may only know her as that one girl from that Nickelodeon show.

The breakout performance wasn't Grande's only big moment at the AMAs. She also took home the trophy for Kohl's Best New Artist, beating Florida Georgia Line, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Phillip Phillips.
