Three 6 Mafia's Ricky "Lord Infamous" Dunigan has died of an apparent heart attack at the age of 40.

According to the Huffington Post, the founder of Three 6 Mafia was found dead in the home of his mother's Memphis Tennessee home, on Friday.

Tweets of the founders death, spread rapidly from members of Three 6 Mafia, as well as Hypnotize Minds.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Dunigan died of a heart attack. "He said he was tired, he wanted to sleep. He sat down at the kitchen table, put his head in his arms to lay down ... to get some sleep," said Three 6 Mafia member DJ Paul.

Dunigan founded Three 6 Mafia in 1991 and that the group was the first rap band to win an Oscar for Best Original Song with "It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp" in 2006.

The passing of Dunigan is a shock to most and for his half-brother, DJ Paul.

Right before Dunigan died, the group was photographed in a studio putting together new material.

Funeral arrangement details have not been given.
