The Amazing Spider-Man 2 continues to promote itself through The Daily Bugle Tumblr page, the official viral marketing site for the Spidey sequel. In late November, the site posted a faux article about a bank robbery by someone that fit the description of the villain Shocker. On Saturday, the site posted another "story" to confirm that Shocker is a part of the Amazing Spider-Man universe.

The article mentions that Spider-Man stopped a bank robbery attempted by "disgruntled engineer Herman Schultz," who had created gauntlets for his wrists that emitted a powerful vibration. In the comics, Schultz is the real name of Shocker, who uses those same gauntlets to attack Spider-Man and cause other mayhem. Just to drive the point home, the article even quotes Detective Stan Carter, who calls Schultz's invention "shocking."

Speaking of Carter, the Daily Bugle Tumbler again references the NYPD Special Crimes Unit Detective. In the comics, Carter becomes Sin-Eater, a vigilante who destroys anyone that he deems has sinned by abusing power. His first (and perhaps most famous) victim was Captain Jean DeWolff.

It's unlikely that all of these characters referenced on The Daily Bugle Tumblr would ever appear in The Amazing Spider-Man movies because they are already packed to the brim with main characters. But the filmmakers could just be dropping these Easter Eggs to get fans excited for the movie and to reward the eagle-eyed audience members for their dedication to the series.

Check out the aforementioned article below:

"By Ned Leeds, City Bureau

A shocking Midtown bank robbery was foiled yesterday by Spider-Man. New York's superhuman vigilante caught the mechanically augmented robber, suspected in two previous bank heists, as he fled the scene with the stolen loot.

Police arrived on the scene as Spider-Man finished webbing up the suspect, who was arrested and later identified as disgruntled engineer, Herman Schultz. Schultz created wrist-gauntlets that are capable of emitting a vibratory wave of pressure that proved capable of tearing apart a four-foot thick steel vault.

NYPD Special Crimes Unit Detective Stan Carter stated that Schultz had officially been remanded into custody and is being held at the Ravencroft Institute pending his preliminary hearing. When asked how a 'disgruntled engineer' could create such dangerous weapons, Carter said, 'Shocking, right? All that genius but no escape plan.'"
