According to a new report from Radar Online, Mel Gibson is one actor being sought for a role in the upcoming Marvel blockbuster The Avengers: Age of Ultron. And by "sought for a role," we mean that leading actor Robert Downey Jr. wants the once famed star to join the cast. As we all know, Gibson has proven to be somewhat of a bigot, so let's see how this idea would play out.

"Robert is raising eyebrows with his efforts on behalf of his longtime best pals Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson," a source explained. "He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films. It's been a longtime dream of Robert's to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he's achieved in recent years."

Gibson has kept up his friendship with Foster despite his downward spiral and the two recently worked on the critically acclaimed movie The Beaver. Downey's attempts to get Foster on board would most likely end well, but Gibson is not an easy sell, especially to Marvel.

"Marvel is run by one of the richest and most prominent Israeli businessmen in Hollywood, and you can be sure even if Robert got down on his knees and begged, there's no place for Mel in the Marvel films," the insider added.

If this report is true, this is an incredibly awkward situation for Downey to bring up. But for now, who do you think Gibson could play in the Marvel universe?
