One of the bigger announcements for the Star Wars universe besides the new trilogy starting with Episode VII in 2015 is that of the spinoff stories that could become TV shows and movies in the future. An animated series, Star Wars Rebels, is already in the works, but there could be another project coming from Pixar in the near future.

According to a new report from rumor-mill Latino Review, the ties between Disney, Star Wars and Pixar could produce a new adventure with some of our favorite characters in an animated format loved the world over!

The website reports:

Once the canon-purge is over and Episode VII is in production, there will be a whole universe of Star Wars related content to play in. We've heard about TV shows, new comics tie-ins (Marvel, of course), spin-off movies for particular characters and now, a Pixar film. At this point, no idea what the size or shape of this film will be and given the long-view storytelling production model that is part of the Pixar brand, this could be a long way off. We can expect it to take place in the middle of a Venn Diagram between Star Wars and A Pixar Movie, and what that means to you depends on your definition of both.

As with any news regarding Star Wars, we should treat this as just a rumor for now.

If Pixar does indeed make a Star Wars movie, it would be the first time the animation studio would make a movie off of an existing property. Plus we might not find out any more information about this project for quite some time since Pixar has a pretty busy schedule.

Slashfilm explains:

Pixar has Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur, and Finding Dory lined up through 2016, so 2017 would seem to be the earliest possible release date. And that's assuming Pixar is already working on the film, or intends to start soon, as they tend to take their time putting together their theatrical features. Moreover, that's such a long way off that any plans could change drastically or get scrapped altogether between now and then.
