Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes To Divorce

After five years of marriage Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting divorced. It was Holmes's first marriage and Cruise's third, he was previously married to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney said to "People" magazine. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Cruise proposed to Holmes in 2005 under the Eiffel Tower and at the time told "People," "Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman."

While that was seven years ago, just last month Cruise spoke about Holmes in an interview to "Playboy."

"She is an extraordinary person, and if you spent five minutes with her, you'd see it," he said. "Everything she does, she does with this beautiful creativity. She's funny and charming, and when she walks into the room, I just feel better. I'm a romantic. I like doing things like creating romantic dinners, and she enjoys that."

Cruise and Holmes have been the subject of tabloid fodder since before their marriage even began. Cruise, who most recently starred in the "Rock of Ages" flop, turns 50 on July 3 and has long fought rumors that he's gay.

He has been in the limelight for much longer than Holmes but public opinion hasn't been kind to the actor who starred in "Risky Business" and "Top Gun." Right when the relationship became famous, Cruise notoriously went on Oprah's talk show and acted, well ... He still hasn't lived down the couch jumping.

There was also the interview with Matt Lauer, when Cruise criticized actress Brooke Shields for giving her child antidepressants.

Cruise's belief in Scientology has made many fans question their previous adoration for him. There were even whispers about him forcing Holmes to convert to the religion.

The couple have one daughter, Suri, who is 6.
