The Cleveland Browns have stated time and time again that Alex Mack is an important part of their franchise and that he's going nowhere, they've also stated they'd pay any money to keep him. Now is there chance to put their money where their mouth is. The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to place an offer sheet on the center, who many believe to be the best in the entire NFL. The deal would be a five-year deal that sees him earn at least $9 million per year, but will the Browns match it and keep their star center?

The Browns will get five days to match the offer, but reports suggest they will instantly match the offer, thus keeping their man in Cleveland. The Browns do have the most cap space in the entire NFL, and they should be able to match the deal regardless of how difficult the Jaguars attempt to make it. Mack should become the highest-paid center in the league, which is deserved, considering his two Pro Bowl appearances, and star seasons.

The Browns will then look to tie up stars like Josh Gordon and once they've done so, and the 2014 NFL Draft has been and gone, their franchise will look a lot better, although their financial structure will become a limited resource. With a good free agency, signing Mack to a long-term deal, and drafting well are practically the only things the Browns are yet to do.

Can the Cleveland Browns compete this season, or is this simply another step in their rebuilding project?
