There's no doubting the ability that Tom Brady possesses, but the New England Patriots need to ensure he has all the necessary targets to throw to, especially with the end of his career in sight. The Patriots have receiving talent, but there's a firm belief that their tight ends and wide receivers aren't as strong as they used to be, and the latest rumour suggests Bill Belichick will look to move up the 2014 NFL Draft in order to draft a wide receiver; quite possibly Sammy Watkins.

They own the 29th overall pick, and although they've looked at quarterbacks so far, they believe that an elite receiver, especially one of Sammy Watkins' ability, could help them win another Super Bowl before Brady retires. The Patriots do have Julian Edelman, but many are wondering if he will perform as well now he has the big contract, so the Patriots believe it would be wise to help both Brady and Edelman out.

How can the Patriots move up, you ask? They could trade Ryan Mallett and their 29th overall pick to move up to a top-ten pick, and then they can pursue Sammy Watkins, or possibly the next best receiver. The Patriots sometimes lack a receiving threat when tight end Rob Gronkowski is out injured, which sadly is more often than he steps out on the field, so any extra receiver would take the pressure off of their star tight end.

Although they've been looking at Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater, it seems like New England are willing to forget about the future for this moment in time, and focus entirely on winning this year.
