On Tuesday, a lawsuit was filed against the University of Tennessee. The suit was filed by six women who claimed that the university "enabled an environment of bad behavior and used a disciplinary system that favored the (football) players." A number of the University's current and former players were named in the suit, including one former basketball player, three former football players, and one current football player. Read More »
There's a big snow storm on the east coast that's put a wrench in a few plans – like the Duquesne men's basketball team, who were supposed to be coming back from Fairfax, Va. to Pittsburgh (where Duquesne is located) on Friday night. On Monday night Alabama defeated Clemson in the College Football National Championship. It was an exciting game; a great game, even, with plenty of scoring and plenty of drama. But perhaps the most dramatic act of the night came on a rather anticlimactic play, when Clemson scored a meaningless touchdown with 12-seconds remaining. It pays to be a part of college football (that is unless you're a player, of course). Take University of Alabama strength coach, Scott Cochran, for example. The upbeat 36-year-old will reportedly be paid more than $600,000 in 2016, after turning down an offer from Georgia to stay in Tuscaloosa. NCAA schools are taking a more relaxed approach when it comes to enforcing penalties for students' use of marijuana. According to an investigation by the Associated Press, at least one-third of the Power Five conference schools (Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, ACC, SEC) are not punishing athletes as toughly as they used to for positive marijuana tests, and other so-called recreational drugs. Which is exactly what Zach Hodskins is in college basketball. The University of Florida Men's Basketball (Gators) walk-on was born without a hand on his left arm. However, he didn't let that stop him from becoming a really good basketball player. On Tuesday night, Hodskins recorded his first collegiate bucket during the Gators' 89-65 victory over Jacksonville. Winning a national championship in a team sport is tough. It takes a combination of skill, team chemistry, and even a little bit of good fortune. Having two family members win a national championship? Almost never happens. Having two family members win national championships within 30 miles of each other allowing the parents to attend both games? You're more likely to encounter someone who doesn't like cake (and who doesn't love cake?). This week P Diddy used a kettlebell the wrong way. When the rap mogul found out a UCLA coach was riding his son, Diddy got in the guys face and the situation escalated to a point where a kettlebell was used as a weapon. Due to an ongoing NCAA investigation, Syracuse University has self-imposed on itself a postseason ban. In response to potential past infractions, which include possible violations connected to the SU's sports programs, the men's basketball team will not be participating in any post-season play.
