Talk about being born into fandom. Ohio State's official Instagram posted photos of the first babies cloaked in the festive blankets. According to the Washington Post, the school did this previously in November, donning newborn babies with "Beat Michigan" blankets. The Buckeyes did. Read More »
Not only does Jim Harbaugh bring exceptional, next-level experience and a huge name to Michigan, but he also offers the school a major marketing opportunity: homegrown kid returns for one of the most lucrative contracts in NCAA history. The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with star coach Jim Harbaugh, who is on his way to the University of Michigan. All indications are that the coach who went 49-22-1 and tookt eh team to one Super Bowl appearance in his four seasons with the Niners will leave the NFL and take over the NCAA's Wolverines, where he starred as a quarterback between 1983-86. The Niners will now turn to a new coach - perhaps the recently deposed Rex Ryan - to guide them to better than a 68% win percentage, and decide whether or not to trade quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Michael Sam said he comes from a family of homophobes and that his brothers called him a "faggot" after he came out as the first openly gay football player earlier this year, Sam told Oprah Winfrey, according to TMZ. Sam spoke with Oprah for a documentary that aired Saturday, Dec. 27, in which the former St. Louis Rams and Dallas Cowboys practice player detailed how difficult it was for him to be accepted even in his own home. "They called me a lot of things," Sam said, according to TMZ. "They called me a f-g. They called me 'gay.' They called me anything you could think of — just to hurt me." During the interview, Sam changed his stance on whether he thinks his sexuality cost him a spot in the NFL. Sam was released by the Rams and the Cowboys, never appearing in a game. Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to the No.2 national ranking during his junior season. Cole reported that university officials are already in San Francisco to meet with Harbaugh after the season concludes. Harbaugh has let the Michigan offer sit for weeks now while his future in San Francisco got murkier and murkier. But the 49ers will come to regret the decision according to SB Nation, which says Harbaugh did everything in San Fran except win a Super Bowl.
