Finally, what we've all been expecting for some time: Bleacher Report is reporting that San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will leave for the University of Michigan next week. The Wolverines have offered Harbaugh a six-year, $48 million contract to ditch the NFL for another shot at the college game, according to Sports Illustrated. Harbaugh coached previously at the University of San Diego and Stanford, where he led the Cardinal to a 12-1 record in 2010.

This from Bleacher Report:

"That's what everybody on staff believes is going to happen this week," one of the sources said. "Jim has figured out that his style is best-suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years."

The report comes from Bleacher Report reporter Jason Cole, who has covered the NFL since 1992, according to his profile on the website.

Harbaugh is expected to take the job after the 49ers season concludes with Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. In four seasons with the 49ers, Harbaugh's record sits at a very good 43-19-1. He's led the 49ers to three straight NFC Championship Games, but fallen out of favor with team brass because of his combative personality.

Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan, where he led the Wolverines to the No. 2 national ranking during his junior season. Cole reported that university officials are already in San Francisco to meet with Harbaugh after the season concludes.

Harbaugh has let the Michigan offer sit for weeks now while his future in San Francisco got murkier and murkier. But the 49ers will come to regret the decision according to SB Nation, which says Harbaugh did everything in San Fran except win a Super Bowl. And only at age 51, he still has a lot of time to change that.
