Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has thrown a respectable 18 touchdowns this season — more than Cam Newton, Colin Kapaernick and Andy Dalton. But none of them have gone to Chiefs wide receivers.

That's right. In an incredibly bizarre streak, no Kansas City receiver has caught a touchdown all season, according to Deadspin. Where, then, have Smith's touchdowns come from?

Tight end Travis Kelce and running back Jamaal Charles are tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with five, followed by tight end Anthony Fasano's four and running back Joe McKnight, who has two. Running back Knile Davis and Anthony Sherman, the fullback, have chipped in with one score each.

The Chiefs aren't without talented receivers. Wideout Dwayne Bower once scored 15 in a season but has zero this year, according to the News Tribune.

"We're all about wins," wide receiver Jason Avant told the Associated Press. "Stats really don't matter in this league. We really don't care about that."

But history does matter. Never in a 16-game season has a team not thrown a touchdown to its receivers. Never once.

What's even crazier is that the Chiefs can do it while still making the playoffs. Although they need a lot of help — namely, the Denver Browns to beat the Baltimore Ravens and the Jacksonville Jaguars to top the Houston Texans — and still have to defeat the San Diego Chargers in Week 17, they can still make it. And who says you have to throw TDs to win? The Chiefs have eight wins this season that say otherwise.

Still, the NFL is a pass-happy league. There are 15 players with at least 10 touchdown catches, and 11 of them are wide receivers. The last team not to throw a TD to its WRs was the 1964 New York Giants, but they played just 14 games, according to the AP.
