Jim Harbaugh has been announced as the new coach of college football's University of Michigan Wolverines. After taking the San Francisco 49ers to three straight NFC championship games and to the 2013 Super Bowl against his brother John and the Baltimore Ravens, endless speculation was finally put to rest as the former NFL coach took the stand at Michigan and tried to explain why he'd rather coach unpaid teens as opposed to professional athletes at the highest level of the sport. But, he pointed out, he doesn't want to be seen as a Messiah, or "make any guarantees."

As ESPN report, the new Wolverines coach said "Throughout my life, I have dreamed of coaching at the University of Michigan," said Harbaugh. "Now I have the honor to live it."

He shrugged off the idea of being a messiah, and "I understand you don't make guarantees," he added.

The interim athletic director at Michigan, Jim Hackett, told the news conference that Harbaugh's contract was for seven years and worth $5 million a year.

Harbaugh announced that he spoke to the team today, and "will hold a team meeting on the 5th or 6th regarding winter conditioning," according to MLive.

Brian Bennett of ESPN said that while "Harbaugh is unquestionably a grand-slam hire for Michigan," fans of the college team "might have to prepare for near-annual Harbaugh-to-the-NFL rumors, and eventually some pro team with a highly favorable situation could lure him away."

He adds that Harbaugh's "previous track record also suggests that he's often eager to move on to the next obstacle."

Twitter, unsurprisingly, flipped out about the introduction through the new conference. Check some of them out below:

What do you think: is it a good hire for Michigan? Are you surprised by the contract details? Would it have been better for Harbaugh to stay in the NFL?
