Author of 'I Quit Sugar' Sarah Wilson talks how you can quit sugar (VIDEO)

Potluck Video learns how to quit sugar with the master, author Sarah Wilson.

Wilson, who has been sugar-free since January 2011, organically started her sugar-less diet as an experiment but noticed the dramatic, positive differences in her energy, skin and wellness. Nutritionists and specialists suggested the move for Wilson, who has suffered from an autoimmune disease, Hashimotos. With nothing to lose and everything to prove, WIlson dedicated herself to a sugar-less lifestyle.

For a small start, Wilson suggests using Organic Brown Rice Syrup or Rice Malt Syrup. In the same aisle as honey in the super market, it's glucose and not addictive like sugars. WIlson also recommends using coconut products like coconut oil.

About the global addiction to sugar, Wilson says, "I think that most people intuitively do understand that the rate at which we've been eating sugar is pretty much at the same rate as the increase of metabolic diseases."

Having to be aware of her dietary consumption of sugar, Wilson learned the hard facts and misconceptions of sugar. She says, "The American Heart Association and the World Health Organization both agree we should be consuming six and nine teaspoons of sugar every day. Now to consume that little, you need to know how much sugar is in everyday products that you're eating that are often deemed healthy."

Often most breakfast cereals will contain five to six teaspoons in a single portion serving alone. A standard serving of apple juice, organic or non-organic, usually contains nine to ten teaspoons of sugar. This amount of sugar is the same amount found in typical soft drinks. In a typical serving of plain or vanilla yogurt, there is six teaspoons of sugar but you should choose the full-fat version of these yogurts. Manufacturers have to add sugar in order make up for the lack in taste.
