Would Zac Efron be returning to his musical roots?

The 26-year-old heartthrob is on E!'s wish list of possible contenders to star in the Grease music currently in the work at Fox.

We already know he has enough hair gel and leather to play Danny Zuko.

The entertainment news outlet caught up with Efron at the premiere of his new movie Neighbors to ask him what he thought about the possibility of donning a greaser jacket to portray this iconic character, played by John Travolta in the 1978 movie.

"That's and honor. Those are big shoes to fill. I think I came as close to it as you could in High School Musical," Efron told them. "To actually do that? Yeah those are big shoes."

In addition to High School Musical, the actor's resume also includes a musical role, set in the 60's, with his portraying of Link in the adaptation of the musical Hairspray.

Grease, which also starred Olivia Newton- John as Sandy Olsen, is based off of the 1971 musical. Stockard Channing and Jeff Conaway also starred in the hit film, which has since, become a musical icon.

The news that Fox would be broadcasting a live remake of the musical was reported on Monday. (Click here to read the article)

It comes as no shock that other networks would want to cash in on the success that was NBC's "Sound of Music" last fall, which was watched by 18.5 million viewers and secured a 4.6 rating in the key demographic of 18-49 year olds.

Next up for the live musical pioneer is an adaptation of the musical "Peter Pan," which will most likely air this fall.

Who do you guys want to see as Efron's, Sandy should he take on the role of Danny? Let us know in the comments below.
