Despite recently stating that he'd "happily" return for another Doctor Who special, actor Matt Smith has a bright future ahead of him in one of the most anticipated rebooted trilogies: Terminator. Hitting theaters in 2015, the first film in the new trilogy, Terminator: Genesis, will introduce Smith's character that reportedly has a major role in the full trilogy.

Deadline reports:

Here is something that should create a geek frenzy. Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are setting the final major piece of the final trilogy of Terminator films. I'm told they are casting Matt Smith, who plays Doctor Who, in a major role that will grow in the second and third films.

Set for a July 1, 2015, release, Terminator: Genesis is directed by Alan Taylor and also stars Emilia Clarke as Sara Connor, Jason Clarke as John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, Day Okeniyi as Danny Dyson, and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

With Smith and Clarke together, fanboys (nerds, geeks, the coolest people on the Internet, etc.) are sure to have a field day with this rebooted trilogy. We're just excited to see Smith involved in another medium involving time-travel!

Of course, we still don't know what character Smith will portray in the new franchise. From the casting list, it looks like the major characters are taken so Smith would most likely take on a brand new role.

What do you think of this casting news? Are you happy about Smith's involvement in the rebooted Terminator franchise? What kind of role do you think he'll take on? Let us know your opinions in the comments section below!
