Frank Ocean shocked the nation when became out of the closet as a gay man last week.  Having hidden his feelings, he finally exposed it through his tumblr blog detailing his experience of falling in love with a man when he was just 19.  The poetic entry moved many hearts as well as sparked controversy.  In the midst of more and more confessions like this by celebrities that hardly make headlines, Ocean's confession truly raised questions like, 'how will the homophobic hip hop music and culture be affected?

This all happened about 2 weeks shy of Ocean's new album Channel Orange's release.  Beyonce voiced her support for Ocean and wrote a poem especially to encourage him. "Be Free, Be Yourself, Be in Love, Be Happy, Be Inspiration"

With all this hype around Ocean's newfound freedom, Channel Orange released one week earlier exclusively on iTunes hitting No. 1 immediately.

Target reacted to the early release by refusing to carry Channel Orange.
Is it due to Ocean's confession?

Ocean's manager Christian Clancy alleged that it may be connected via twitter, but the post was later taken down.

In a statement from Target to MTV News, Target explained, "At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are released digitally in advance of the street date."

"The claims made about Target's decision to not carry the Frank Ocean album are absolutely false. Target supports inclusivity and diversity in every aspect of our business. Our assortment decisions are based on a number of factors, including guest demand."

The explanation continued to explain that Target is a place that supports music from diverse artists that "reflects the diverse landscape of American culture."

Do you think this is all a publicity stint?  Some people speculate that it is, while others believe that it's simply a heartfelt confession. What are your thoughts?
