We're not sure how the second season of True Detective will turn out just yet, but season one star Matthew McConaughey recently shared his interest in returning. Now a new project could see McConaughey's return to the small screen: the television series adaptation of his 2012 movie Killer Joe.

Considering the one story per season structure of the Nic Pizzolatto series, Matthew most likely won't be featured in the second season of True Detective.

Meanwhile, Killer Joe director William Friedken recently announced his plans on turning violent black comedy into a TV series.

The AV Club reports:

"The only thing I'm interested in now is long form, which is what you'd call television," he says, citing Fargo and The Normal Heart as examples of how the small screen has eclipsed the big one artistically. This would explain his openness to "long-form" TV adaptations of his films To Live And Die In L.A. and Killer Joe; Friedkin says both are currently being developed for TV, and although neither will follow the same storyline as the films they're based on, each will retain the "vibe" of the original.

So what can we expect from a Killer Joe series? Well an interview with McCanoughey on the character might help those that haven't seen the film

"Joe is like a black panther," McConaughey told The Hollywood Reporter.  "Every movement is deliberate, minimal. Never really exposing light, not out to really define himself, not out to help you understand who he is, not out to 'let's keep this conversation rolling.' Not out to make friends."
