Cinemax's new forthcoming 2014 television series The Knick looks dark, gritty, and very bloody. Starring Clive Owen, the start of the modern medicine can also be described by those words - and Cinemax is about to show us why.
"We, mankind, have progressed so far," Owen's voice states over progressing shots of dark alleys and bright operating rooms. "We live in a time of endless possibilities; from such humble beginnings with the astonishing modern world in which we now live. More has been learned about the treatment of the human body in the last five years than learned in the previous five hundred."
Viewers watching this trailer start to understand by the tone of voice and the imagery shown under the monologue that The Knick is going to be a wild ride.
"I will not stop pushing forward into a hopeful future. And with every blow I land, every extra year I give to a patient - I know that at the very least something has been won," the series' star says in a disparaging voice over some crazy scenes.
