It looks like we might have some answers regarding the second season of HBO's hit 2014 series, True Detective. According to HBO and series creator Nic Pizzolatto,  these new episodes are set in California with four leads replacing season one's Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (who each received 2014 Emmy nominations for their True Detective work).

In a new interview with The Daily Beast in regards to the True Detective Emmy nominations, Pizzolatto revealed that casting has not been completed on the four leads and that he can't really say much else.

Meanwhile, HBO programming president Michael Lombardo during the Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles this week revealed a bit more about the four leads.

"I think the truth of the matter is a number of people - talented, well-known actors - look for great writing," he explained, according to Mashable. "I think the people we will cast will be well-known names, but that wasn't the ambition."

"I think we decided early on to free ourselves of the idea of a 'star' and lean into great acting," he said, adding that casting announcements could come "in the next week."

Lombardo was pressed for more details, and he finally gave the press one more tidbit.

"I hate to jinx it, but they are more exciting than the first season," he said. "Nic's an incredibly talented writer and he's blown us away with the first two episodes."
