Composer Brian Tyler has a huge discography of scores and soundtracks he created for movies, TV shows and video games, but this summer his music is blasting in move theaters thanks to the August releases of The Expendables 3, Into the Storm, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In a recent interview with Music Times, the multitalented musician and writer opened up a bit about working on the action trilogy with Sylvester Stallone and how an underlying theme to the music was composed to musically bridge the series together.

"We wanted to take the approach that there is a continuity of themes. So, we went in there with the thought that these themes would continue, but if there were new characters that enter the picture, we would do new themes," he explained when asked about the music in the trilogy. "That's exactly what we did on this. There was a main Expendables theme, kind of like a Harry Potter, Star Wars, Raiders, or any of these movies that have themes that go throughout the films. We went for it."

Tyler went on to detail his experience working with Stallone and how their teamwork made for an amazing movie making process in terms of the scores.

"I worked with Sly before actually on Rambo in 2008. We kind of had a short hand and we wanted something that would stand up to reputed viewings and people that really wanted to see all the series together as kind of a cohesive whole," he said. "So, you can watch all three in the end and it makes musical sense."

In his exclusive interview with Music Times, Tyler went on to talk about his work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Into the Storm and upcoming projects like Fast & Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Find out more about Tyler and his new projects right here!
