The NFL prides itself on being a fair, respectable organization, and for the most part they do a good job. However, lately there has been a huge stir caused regarding bans for players as a punishment. The NFL has many stars that break its rules, but are they being punished fairly? The Baltimore Ravens recently lost Ray Rice to a 2-game suspension for domestic violence, while the Cleveland Browns have today lost wide receiver Josh Gordon for an entire year for drugs abuse. A huge Twitter war has started, with some fans suggesting the NFL needs to tighten its rules, as their punishments suggests violence is far better than drugs.

Rice hit his wife, and was only hit with a 2-game ban, with many believing that would help Gordon to see his ban reduced. Neither kind of abuse is acceptable, and both shouldn't go without punishment, but many are furious that one is considered that much worse than the other. Maine-Gov. Paul LePage evidently agrees, saying "Taking thugs and wife-beaters off the field may be bad for business, but you are playing games with people's lives,""

Gordon today was hit with a one-year ban, which could also hurt his chances to play effectively next season. Today he issued an apology: "I'd like to apologize to my teammates, coaches, the Cleveland Browns organization and our fans. I am very disappointed that the NFL and its hearing office didn't exercise better discretion and judgement in my case. I would like to sincerely thank the people who have been incredibly supportive of me during this challenging time, including my family, my agent, my union, my legal team, and the Cleveland Browns staff."

A huge Twitter war has started, with fans furious at the difference in punishments.

How can the NFL resolve this for future incidents?
