Did you expect the season 1 finale of HBO's The Leftovers, entitled "The Prodigal Son Returns," to answer all of your questions about the series so far? Were you expected many more questions to arise? Well, either way, we absolutely understand why season 2 is on the way. Here is the last recap of The Leftovers for 2014. (SPOILERS to Follow)

Kicking things off quite quickly: Christine leaves Tom with Wayne's baby. As if the show wasn't already so incredibly messed up with all of the murders and suicide, the writers decided that abandoning an infant in a rest stop bathroom might make a good addition to the story.

Besides Laurie having to deal with Jill trying to join the Guilty Remnant, the group's next big plan plays out in this episode and it is sick. Like, unreal inappropriate. Nora Durst and everyone else that lost someone in the mass disappearance wakes up the next day to find life-like replicas of those they had lost.

Meanwhile, Kevin gets some help from Reverend Jamison - who totally believes his story for some reason. We know it's the truth, but is Matt really that trusting? Perhaps he's just happy to be rid of Patti? Either way, he helps Kevin bury the corpse, only asking Kevin to read a Bible passage as if to make the DIY burial into a funeral - this ends in Kevin breaking down in tears.

Kevin then has a bizarre dream: Matt drops Kevin off at the mental institute where Kevin Sr. is. Patti is somehow there, too, getting overtly sexual with Kevin, then yelling at him to wake up. At this point he wakes up and Matt didn't betray him. They talk about what happened with Patti, what happened before the Departure. We learn that Kevin truly wanted to be with his family after the Departure, though we know before that he wanted to get away.

In a strange (great) turn of events, Kevin happens upon a dying Wayne in the bathroom of the diner. He offers Kevin a wish, because if he can grant it, then that would mean he "was real." Honestly, this was the best moment involving Wayne - including his interaction with Nora. Are we sad to see him go?

Kevin and Matt get back to Mapleton and the citizens are hunting down the Guilty Remnant after the replicas incident. "We made them remember," Meg tells Kevin, leading to a brutal scene of mass hysteria in the small town.

Laurie screams her first word since her vow of silence: "Jill!" Kevin rescues his daughter from certain death.

The episode concludes with Nora writing a break up letter to Kevin, explaining she has to leave because she can't truly move on from the loss of her family ... but something stops her. Christine's baby on the Garvey's porch. Does this mean she stays? Also, "The Prodigal Son Returns" (Tom is back in Mapleton). Plus, the wild dog from the last few episodes is tame, and Jill might start to appreciate her dad since he saved her life and all of that.

The biggest complaint about this episode is that it went by so quickly. Other than that, it was amazing. Obviously we have a ton of questions still unanswered, but we still learned so much about Kevin and his town. What should we expect for season 2?
