‘The Big Bang Theory’ Star Mayim Bialik Talks About Amy and Sheldon Having A Sexual Relationship In Season Eight

Amy Farrah Fowler and Sheldon Cooper might be the most unconventional couple on CBS' hit comedy The Big Bang Theory, but their relationship has fans rooting for the almost-too-smart-to-function duo. Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, talked to ETonline and opened up about the potential of coitus! 

"I think taking it slow is something that is really, really sweet, and I think the Amy and Sheldon relationship really proves that there is someone for everyone," Mayim told ETonline.  "There are really no rules for how quickly or reasonably a relationship should progress and I'd like to see more of that." 

The relationship of "Shamy" is different and groundbreaking, but that doesn't mean that sex is on the horizon for the two on-screen lovebirds. 

"Name me another couple that has been this committed and intimate without having sex, I think it's something that is really sweet," she revealed.

What we do know about Sheldon and Amy is that they start off in a not so good place. Sheldon left for a cross-country trip at the end of season seven and when it picks up in season eight, he is stranded in Arizona.

"His belongings have been stolen and he needs Leonard to come pick him up in Arizona," showrunner Steve Molaro told TVLine. "Amy's not pissed at him for leaving, but she's certainly not thrilled that when he ran into trouble he called Leonard instead of her."

This season will also bring a serious change for Penny, played by Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting. Penny has been an aspiring actress since season one, but according to creator Chuck Lorre, she is switching from her dream job to become a pharmaceutical rep.

"I think it's going to be a great opportunity to have some of that playfulness, and shifting roles in our dynamic," Mayim explained to ETonline. "I'm told that there is an opportunity for us to poke fun at her for being too studious when she's preparing for the new job in a couple of episodes and that will be really funny."

Season eight premieres on a new night, Monday Sept. 22.
