Season three of the hilarious Fox comedy, The Mindy Project, returns next week (Tuesday, September 16) and romance is in the air. Last season Mindy (played by Mindy Kaling) had a lot of dating drama, but she's finally with Danny (played by Chris Messina), which is great. In honor of the romantic comedy's third season we're talking about what we'd like to see happen in the upcoming weeks.

1.     Mother and Son Bonding.

This season Rhea Perlman will be joining the cast as Danny's mother, Annette Castellano. Her comedy chops are sure to add a seriously funny spin to the typical mother-son dynamic we are expecting. In addition to the relationship with Mindy, Annette will really clash with her two sons and we can't wait to see it unfold.

The show's executive producer and star, Mindy Kaling explained the dynamic they hope to portray during the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

"As Danny has said, 'I don't know how to please that woman.' So we haven't ignored her own relationship with her two sons and her ex-husband [played by Dan Hedaya]. So we really explore a lot," TVLine reported.

"The third episode is called 'Annette Castellano Is My Nemisis,' so we really hit it dead-on," she added.

Cheers meets The Mindy Project? We are totally on board.

2.     More Odes to Iconic Romantic Comedies.

In season two's finale, The Mindy Project tackled how to bring iconic films like When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless In Seattle into a TV show and it was glorious. Mindy and Danny meeting at the top of the Empire State building was beautiful, over-the-top romantic and just the right amount of cheesy.

In season three we'd like to see more romantic comedies incorporated into the show. Why not mix in a little You've Got Mail?  But, instead of e-mailing it could be a mysterious texting game. What about a super romantic Mindy and Danny meets Noah and Allie in The Notebook?

3.     Let Danny and Mindy Be Happy.

Danny and Mindy have already been through a whirlwind of emotional stages in their relationship and it barely even started. They were secretive, scandalous and yet perfect together.

"The happy couple will hit a snag early in the season when Mindy learns that... Danny isn't technically divorced! While that naturally creates a big speed bump in their romantic relationship, it also strains their working one," TV Guide reported.

Our hope is that this season, their romance grows and develops. Sure, there are bound to be fights but if they only last one or two episodes, we will be seriously disappointed.

Plus, E! Online reported that "Danny. Dances. Again. And he also plays an instrument. And wears his adorable glasses," which can only be good in our minds.
