Oscar Pistorius is edging closer to learning his fate for the shooting and killing of Reeva Steenkamp. Yesterday we learned that he could not be charged with murder, and today he was charged with culpable homicide, however, his fate will not be learned until the court reopens on October 13th (date subject to change). The athletics star has been granted bail, where he will continue to live with his uncle outside of the city center until he learns his fate. What punishment does he deserve, and could the star prefer a short jail sentence, baring in mind this court case is rumoured to be financially crippling one?

With a charge for culpable homicide, Oscar can receive no more than a 15-year spell behind bars, however, he could walk away with a fine or an insignificant punishment in comparison, meaning he'd be free to start his life again. Oscar had a fair amount of money, but reports suggest he's had to sell properties and valuables, all in order to afford this case, in an attempt to clear his name. If he walks away free, which is looking very likely, he would have little money to his name, meaning he'd need to resume his athletics career, release an autobiography, or find a way to earn a living, all while facing a difficult time of doing so.

Regards of what punishment he receives, this will haunt him forever, and many people will not be so easily forgiving, meaning he might find it tough to make a living. Could Oscar prefer a year or two in prison, where he could look to rebuild himself as a person, not have any expenses, and quite possibly walk away a richer, better man, all while this case has slowly died down, allowing him to live his life once again.

It's looking like he could walk away, without a jail sentence, and if that's the case, he's going to have a lack of finances, all while receiving a lot of hatred towards him.
