Chicago PD fans have waited long enough to see who was responsible for Sheldon Jin's murder. Was it Voight? The season opener reveals if this was the case.
The first scene opens with Voight being questioned by Internal Affairs if he had anything to do with the murder of Jin. Voight denies any involvement.
The questioning from his own team continues at District 21. Halstead is now in charge of intelligence for Jin's murder when he receives an unmarked package from six weeks ago, when Jin was still alive.
The letter incudes a thumb drive along with a note: "I know I can trust you-Jin."
Halstead asks Lindsay if Voight could possibly be mixed up in any of this, but she always has Voights's back for reasons that take them back to her past.
The thumb drive gives insight that Jin was working with Internal Affairs. Halstead then makes the decision to take it to Voight, where Voight then confronts people higher up. He confronts Stillwell that Jin recorded his every move, holding all the threats he made. The two men are at a standstill as Stillwell threatens to out Voight to his team that he was working with Internal Affairs.
Halstead wants the drive back, but Voight will not allow that and tells him he is handling it, which in turn makes Halstead's assumptions stronger.
Jin's mother makes a visit, which ultimately leads Voight to hand over the drive, thus making an arrest for Stillwell. Voight then comes clean to his team about working with IA. In truth, Voight informs them that he helped Jin's family pay off gambling debts by giving them cash from his "secret stash."
He does not care that it may be dirty money because it is the gesture that counts.
