Tyler Perry made headlines last week when he announced that he was going to be having his first child with girlfriend Gelila Bekele.

His announcement came during a time of whirlwind press interviews and junkets for his movie Gone Girl, hitting theaters Oct. 3.

There was even a possible gender slip during one interview: Could it be a boy?

The Madea star told Extra what kind of dad he will be for his child:

"The greatest gift I'm being given right now is the opportunity to give the little boy in me everything I never had, so that's what I'm excited about. This beautiful human being that God has allowed to come into my life for me to get to know, because they come with their own personalities, who they are, to shepherd and usher him ..."

The birth of his future child is something Tyler has verbalized he isn't so ecstatic about. He revealed to Today Show host Tamron Hall that he's happy to go to Lamaze class with Bekele, but joining her in the delivery room might be another story.

"I don't know," he said. "You got to pray for me on that! I don't know."

Perry is what we call in Hollywood a triple-threat. We like to think of him as a jack-of-all-trades — the man has his hands in everything and is magnificent in everything he touches. He's an actor, director, screenwriter, playwright, producer — the list goes on.

Tyler has revealed that he will slow down on some of his projects to concentrate on being a father to his child —something he did not share with his abusive father.

"I've slowed down on film for a while," he said. "I'm just working on television, which allows me time to be home and slow things down — which is very important right now."
